Viewfinder: Treadwell Park Day Camp

Kids experience the fun of camp while the counselors keep it all together.

As temperatures edged into the 90s Wednesday, the pool at Treadwell Park was a good place to be for kids in the Newtown Parks and Recreation Day Camp.

Refreshed by a dip in the pool, campers set off to play "lava tag" on the playground, "four-square" in the shade of the pavilion or games on the field, such as "sharks and minnows" and "ships and sailors."

Others looking for a quieter activity gathered around a picnic table and painted sun catchers in the shade of a large tree.

Meanwhile, camp counselors, who wore blue T-shirts, and counselors-in-training, who wore yellow, nursed knee scrapes, chatted up campers sitting alone and tended to tears of frustration.

They swung alongside their charges on the playground. Counselors issued stern cease and desist warnings when a bug was placed down someone's shirt.
