Viewfinder: Botsford Fire Department Carnival
Opening day draws families and teens looking for a thrill.
The clouds parted and the sun came out, just in time for opening day of the 15th annual Botsford Fire Department Carnival, which .
“We had to assemble everything in the rain, but the weather worked out for us,” said George Marenna, owner of Marenna Amusements, adding that he was happy to be back at the traditional carnival site at Newtown High School now renovations were complete.
He said he was excited about his newest ride, the Yo-Yo, “one of Connecticut’s largest swings.”

Botsford Fire Captain Jeff Dugan said carnival proceeds were earmarked for a new tanker truck as well as regular running of the firehouse and acquisition and maintenance of equipment.
As darkness fell families with young children taking their first ride on the merry-go-round gave way to clumps of teenagers seeking the blaring music and some thrills.
