Top 5 Teen Books at the Library

Teens are reading this summer with plenty to choose from and a few favorites rising to the surface.

With the , teens across town are checking out books from the C.H. Booth Library with a few favorites rising to the surface, librarians and teens said.

“I’m reading the Harry Potter books,” says Jaclyn O’Leary, a sixth grade student holding a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in her lap one recent day at the library. “I really like the fourth one because it’s the most exciting one and I really like Harry because usually getting into trouble and is the funniest character.”

But not all teens have picked out their favorites yet or even know what they will be reading yet.

“I have no idea,” ninth grader Miranda Wakeman said. “I’m one of those people that just walks through the library for hours and hours and picks out a random book.”

Science fiction, thrillers and historical fiction top the list of five books that are most popular among teens, according to C.H. Booth Library librarian Margaret Brown.

“It’s been Hunger Games, Hunger Games, Hunger Games,” she said of the young adult trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which has been nominated for a Nutmeg Award and has a movie in production.

“Aside from that the classics and historical fiction have been really popular. Harry Potter, as well, because of the movie coming out in a few weeks, everyone wants to re-read them before they go see the last one,” Brown said.
