This is Newtown: Strangers Say Hi

The sense of community is just as enjoyable as my bacon, egg and cheese.


As I sat at a table outside the Newtown General Store eating my bacon, egg and cheese this morning, three total strangers greeted me with a warm smile and friendly hello.

"What a beautiful day," I said to one woman.

"Absolutely perfect," she responded.

So true, I thought, as a few puffy white clouds floated above in a striking blue sky. I took a moment to soak up the warmth of the sun before devouring the last bite of my delicious breakfast sandwich.

At the table next to me sat an older gentleman. He was consuming a bacon, egg and cheese and a coffee, with a side of local news a la Newtown Bee.

The man, a 20-year resident, is retired. He said he'll be mowing his lawn on this beautiful day. After chatting for a while about this and that, we shook hands and I headed toward my car.
