Storm to Bring Wintry Mix, Early Dismissal

Newtown schools release early in anticipation of the storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory and is calling for 1 to 4 inches of mixed precipitation today, Leap Day, into Thursday. In anticipation of the storm, Newtown Schools will have an early release day, with no PM kindergarten.

Snow should begin falling from the western part of the state to the eastern around noon, with sleet and ice developing later in the afternoon, and temperatures will be in the mid 30s, forecasters said.

There will be areas of freezing rain later today, with the mixed precipitation turning to all rain by Thursday morning, according to reports.
