Roads to Avoid This Week in Newtown, Plus a Look Ahead

Roads work projects around town this week and a tentative paving schedule for the weeks ahead.

Newtown’s Public Works crews will doing street sweeping and roadside mowing throughout town this week, as well as a number of catch basin repairs and the continuing bridge replacement on Poverty Hollow Road.

Weather permitting, crews will be repairing and raising the basin tops on Flat Swamp, Poor House Road, Shut Road and Pine Street this week, with each project expected to take 2-3 days.

The bridge replacement on Poverty Hollow, which began last week, is projected to last 2 months, with an end date currently set for Aug. 9.

The Highways Department also released a list of upcoming road work on deck for the coming weeks:

Webster Place — Mill and Overlay, Duration: 2 weeks
Cemetery Road — Mill and Overlay, Duration: 1 week
Flat Swamp Road — Mill and Overlay, Duration: 1 week
Poor House Road and Shut Road — Mill and Overlay, Duration: 2 weeks
Brushy Hill Road — Raise Basin Tops, Duration: 2 weeks
Eden Hill Road — Raise Basin Tops, Duration: 1 week
