Parks and Rec Open Fields to Public Use

Some fields are opened to public use this weekend.

The Newtown parks and recreation department has opened up some fields for public use for the first time since the October snow storm hit.

"We will be opening fields on a limited basis for those who want to get the kids out of the house and expend some of that pent up frustration," according to an email blast from the town.

Below are the days and list of fields that parks and recreation officials said are opened:

Friday, Nov. 4

  • Tilson and Treadwell artificial fields are open for scheduled events.  We have lights scheduled as requested, however, with rolling power outages we cannot ensure they will remain on.
  • Taylor Field (Hawley) - Open for scheduled use.
  • Oakview Field - Open for scheduled use.
  • Sandy Hook School baseball - Open for use, some snow remains in the outfield
  • Walnut Tree baseball - Open for use

Saturday, Nov. 5

Sunday Nov. 6

ALL FIELDS NOT LISTED REMAIN CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND
