NYFS Offering Extended Support On 12/14 Anniversary

Newtown Youth and Family Services will offer extended support hours on the anniversary of Dec. 14 and the days around it, the organization announced Monday.

Responding to First Selectman Pat Llodra's call to "remember and honor those who lost their lives in that awful tragedy in ways that are quiet, personal, and respectful," Executive Director Candice Bohr announced the organization would open their doors to the community throughout the 13th, 14th and 15th.

"NYFS strives to meet the needs of the community on an ongoing basis," Bohr said. "We are constantly working to assess the types of supports and programming that is desired."

The agency will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Newtown Youth and Family Services began providing walk-in support services to the town shortly after the shooting. Services are "for both individuals and families to express their personal concerns and feelings related to the tragedy, meet with a staff therapist who can address these concerns, answer questions and provide referrals for ongoing services if needed," according to the agency.

The non-profit provides free mental health services for children and families. For more information, see their website.
