Booth Library Enters 'Transitional Phase' in Search for Director

Facing a vacancy in leadership following new director Shawn Fields' resignation, C.H. Booth Library decided Tuesday night it would not officially name an interim director as board members search for a replacement.

A committee of three board members will "explore options and make a recommendation to the board" in the search for a new director, seeking council from the Connecticut Council of Municipalities and information on best hiring practices from the State Library. Michelle Rosenthal, Michael Talluto and one other board member will serve on the committee.

Assistant director Beryl Harrison's responsibilities include some that would otherwise be completed by a director, with the staff continuing day-to-day operations and each department head overseeing their own department.

The library has been without a director since last week, when former director Shawn Fields stepped down after 11 weeks. Fields faced criticism for some changes from patrons.
