Newtown Officials: 'Be Prepared' As Arctic Chill Continues

Town and fire officials have issued cautions about freezing arctic chills today, tonight and in the upcoming days across Newtown.

Residents can come to the Newtown Municipal Center or the Newtown Senior Center to find relief from the cold. The Municipal Center is open until 9:30 p.m., and the Senior Center is open from 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The First Selectman's office asked residents to check on any elderly or frail neighbors to be certain they are doing okay in the weather.

Temperatures in Newtown are currently nine degrees, with a -13 wind chill. A wind chill advisory is in effect until 8:00 a.m. Thursday. Freezing conditions and subzero wind chills are expected to continue until at least Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
