New Animal Shelter Opens Monday

The dogs have been moved and just need to settle in before they are ready to greet the public.

The first dog, Sunny, joined First Selectman Pat Llodra in celebrating the first day for dogs at the new animal shelter, located at the end of Trades Lane.

Sunny took the tour, nervous at first, but Kennel Keeper Matt Schaub kept a steady hand on the leash.  Llodra and Carolee Mason, joined by Public Works Director Fred Hurley, came in after and marveled at the "first class" building that still has a punch list of minor odds and ends to complete.

The building will officially open to the public on Monday and will also house cats.  The dogs are seen to their best advantage in the new building and there are a couple of dogs that would make excellent pets.
