Luminaries to Light Up Newtown on Christmas Eve

Candles and bags will be distributed for free today, Dec. 23, at Big Y and Stop & Shop in Newtown.

A plan is in action to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook School shooting and, at the same time, celebrate Christmas.

Today, Dec. 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., luminaria candles and bags will be given out for free at the Stop & Shop at Sand Hill Plaza and the Big Y shopping plaza.

The plan is to have all Newtown residents light 26 candles on Christmas Eve to honor the 26 victims of the Dec. 14 shooting.
