Good Deeds For Free, Courtesy of Newtown Kindness

How about free lemonade? Balloons? Comfort dogs? Whatever makes your day a little better, Newtown Kindness came out this week to offer it to you for free.

Patch caught up with members of the group outside Stop & Shop Wednesday afternoon, where a group of parents and kids were stationed.

"Today were trying to give away lemonade," said events coordinator Rhonda Feuz, referring to the free lemonade stand kits the organization offered. "It's for kids to give away, for nothing more than a smile ... They're working on being bold."

The organization was founded in memory of Dec. 14 victim Charlotte Bacon, and coordinates the Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness Award on her birthday. (Patch covered the first award in February, and organizers say they're ready to start planning for the second award ceremony next year.)

Just an example of the kindness you can expect: on my visit, a USPS truck pulled up alongside the Stop & Shop entrance. Without prompting, one young volunteer leapt from her seat and offered the driver a balloon. Smiling, he accepted -- and she tied it to his passenger-side mirror.
