Former Shelton Librarian to Head Booth Library

The Cyrenus H. Booth Library has chosen Shawn R. Fields to take the reins as library director in July, according to Board of Trustees president Martha Robilotti.

"We are very pleased with our selection," said Robilotti. "He's very energetic, enthusiastic, looking forward to partnering with the board, staff and community and bringing the library to the next level of service."

Fields comes to Newtown from Shelton, where he served as the director of the Huntington Branch of the Shelton Public Library. An Oxford resident, he earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University and a subsequent Master's Degree in Religious Studies from Sacred Heart University. While at Sacred Heart, he also served as director of their Ryan Matura Library.

"He's had some business experience, fundraising experience and we think he'll make a good addition to the library," said Robilotti.

The search for the new director began last fall after Woycik announced she would retire this year, Robilotti said. Fields will officially assume the position July 1.
