At Treadwell Today: Sledding, Santa and Hot Chocolate

The "We Are Newtown" Facebook group is bringing snow to the park to make it a white Christmas.

There may not be snow on the ground, but that's not stopping a group from making it a white Christmas in Newtown.

According to the "We Are Newtown" Facebook page, they are hosting a festive, family fun day at Treadwell Park today, Dec. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The group encourages parents and children to "put on your winter gear, bring your sleds, tubes, and join your neighbors in a day of holiday fun!"

The event, "Snow 'Angel Day," will feature sledding, hot chocolate, and a visit from Santa, who will come bearing gifts.

Treadwell Park is located at 8 Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook. For more information, please email SnowfromAngels@hotmail.com

After a very long night it was determined that SNOW WASN'T coming. Sorry to say that "Snow Angels" has been postponed. Please pass the word along to anyone that was going to come sled today. A BIG Thank you to the guys that spent ALL night at Treadwell trying to make it happen.

I personally called Parks and Rec, and spoke to Donna. They haven't officially postponed it yet, so dont count it out just yet.

The snow maker they brought is the biggest one I've ever seen. And ones that are THAT big, need an enormous water supply to feed the compressor that sprays out the snow.
With the limited water source they have at Treadwell, there wasn't enough "supply" to meet the "demand" of that size snow maker. All it made was fog and a very slight dusting of snow covering the ground in front of it. It might still work if they brought a fire truck or water tanker there.

There's a couple of Monroes police officers there, nicely explaining hat it's been cancelled for the day.
Whether it'll be rescheduled or not, is something we'll have to wait for.

Even IF they did not make enough snow, there is still plenty of things to do at the park for our residents, turn it into a positive!

The kids all had plenty of fun with what snow there was. We even met a wonderful woman who drove from Arizona with candy canes to see how she could help.

The event was postponed due to a lack of snow, despite the valiant efforts of some residents through the night to get the machines operating correctly. A new date has not yet been set, but it's expected to take place after Jan. 1. That said, many families did show up today and from the sound and look of things, they had a lot of fun! I'll be posting a bunch of pics and video to the site soon so stay tuned.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
