A Little Sunshine At The First Farmer's Market Of 2013

Welcome to summer! That means farmer's markets, of course -- and Patch caught up with the first Newtown Farmer's Market this afternoon, just before that downpour rolled in and left Newtown all wet.

"Considering its a school day, we have a nice run and everyone's happy!" said organizer Mary Fellows. It's the eleventh year for the market, held at the Fairfield Hills campus and featuring live music and a variety of vendors (see photos.)

New vendors this year include Sandy Hook's Biscotti Etc., Wilton's Greenleaf Organic Bakery and Cafe and Redding's Carrot Top Kitchens.

"It's our first time in Newtown, and we're thrilled," said Carrot Top owner Victoria Eastus. "But we do eleven markets a week, so we keep busy."

"Every community is lucky to have a farmers market," said Fellows. "And it's important for everyone to support it. The farmers come out for the people and dedicate their whole day."
