16-Year-Old Dog Saved by Samaritan, Reunited With Family

When Joe Kearney and his family saw an older dog walking down the middle of Route 25 in the cold, they knew they needed to help.

It was a cold night when Joe Kearney saw an older female dog walking in the middle of a Brookfield street.

"Since it was bitter cold, dark and the dog was walking slowly down the middle of Route 25 we felt we had to see if we could help, especially since it nearly missed getting hit by the car in front of us," Kearney said in the comments section of his "found dog" post on Newtown Patch.

He brought the dog to the vet but she didn't have a microchip. She also had cataracts and couldn't see well, he said.

More than 1,000 people across Brookfield Patch and Newtown Patch shared Kearney's post. He gave credit to all those people for the happy outcome of this tale.

At 10:07 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, Kearney commented on his Brookfield Patch post and said the owner was coming soon to pick up the pup.

"We Want to Thank Everyone"

"Great News," Kearney wrote in the comments. "The dog's owner called and will be picking her up soon. The dog lives in Brookfield and is 16 years old with a number of health issues. We want to thank everyone who commented or called us with suggestions, leads, etc. as it led directly to a successful conclusion."

He wasn't the only one expressing gratitude. Readers thanked Kearney for helping out.

"Thank you again for going the extra mile and taking her in! I know Pixie appreciates it!!!" — Michelle Cornelison

"I just read about this pup...what a wonderful thing you did Joe. God Bless!" — Patricia Pasciolla
