Scam Alert: Phone Calls Targeting Grandparents

"I can't believe you don't recognize my voice," the caller said to my grandmother Friday afternoon.

He had called asking for money to bail him out of a Miami jail after getting busted for a DUI.

"Jeffrey?" my grandmother asked, thinking it was one of my cousins who lives in Florida.

But Jeffrey doesn't drink, she remembered.

"Are you going to send me the money," the caller pushed.

"No," my grandmother said as she hung up.

She then called Newtown Police to report the incident.

It's not an uncommon scam, apparently. Fortunately, my grandmother, a Sandy Hook resident, didn't fall for it.

Make sure your loved ones don't, either.
