Fundraising Outing to CT Sun Game This Sun., July 27, to Benefit Acts 4 Ministry

This Sunday, July 27, Acts 4 Ministry in Waterbury will host a fundraising outing to the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville to watch the Connecticut Sun Women's basketball team face off against the Minnesota Lynx. Funds raised will help support Acts 4 Ministry’s annual “Back to School Drive” this August which is being sponsored by TD Bank. “Both teams include former UCONN Women's basketball players,” stated Sarah Elizabeth DiMeo, executive director of Acts 4 Ministry.”

Special discount tickets are being offered at $22/person and include free event parking, on-line ordering, and at-home ticket printing. Acts 4 Ministry hopes to attract sponsors for local area students to attend the game. To qualify, the students have had a high attendance record for the 2013 to 2014 school year. “A sponsoring donor just needs to go to www.acts4.org, click donate now and fill out form and insert a special note to sponsor a child,” DiMeo stated. To secure game tickets, visit www.acts4.org events page.

Connecticut Sun fans unable to attend Sunday’s game, can attend Acts 4 Ministry’s “CT Sun Meet and Greet” fundraising reception August 14 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 p.m. in Waterbury. “Two players,” explained DiMeo, “will be at our headquarters at 1713 Thomaston Avenue August 14 to hand-out school uniforms to area children. The reception will also feature a silent auction, light refreshments and live entertainment.”

Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. provides people with unexpected needs due to flood and fire damage to their home, domestic abuse, etc. with the basics of daily living needs. They partner with churches, social service agencies, and public schools to identify and serve people with these needs in the context of the broader community regardless of their faith, race, creed, or national origin, or their willingness to participate in religious activities.

The non-profit organization’s building at 1713 Thomaston Avenue houses a store environment where people with immediate ‘basic living needs’ can select clothing, furniture and household items. “Individuals or families in sudden devastation and need can come here to personally select clothing, dishes, glassware, furnishings, and other basic needs at no charge,” explained DiMeo.

The Acts 4 Ministry retail store is also open to the general public on Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to purchase gently-used clothing, furniture and household goods.

Anyone interested in making in-kind donations of school uniforms and/or supplies or volunteering during Acts 4 Ministry’s “Back to School Drive,” or coordinating a collection bin at their church or place of business, can contact Acts 4 Ministry’s Operations Manager at 203-574-2287 or via email to opsmanager@acts4.org.
