Edmond Town Hall Cupola Restoration Underway

Edmond Town Hall’s cupola is getting its first makeover since the early 1960’s, thanks to the efforts of the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers (BOM).

The work involves scraping the cupola to bare wood, fixing all broken wood, epoxying holes and applying an oil-based primer and two coats of paint to ensure a durable surface for many years to come.

“The icing on the cake will be the gilding of the dome, which will require 9 rolls of 23 karat, 23 gram weight gold leaf,” says BOM Chairman James Juliano. That’s the best exterior gilding you can get because it’s heavier.”

After a two-year search for a contractor and the proper bid, the Board of Managers awarded the contract to Valley Restoration of Torrington, CT.

“The Board is happy to have Valley Restoration do the work. Their track record is impeccable. They did the gilding of the dome at the state capitol in Hartford and they painted the Main Street flagpole and the Newtown Meeting House steeple. They also placed the new gilded ball finial on top of the flagpole,” says Juliano.
