Cary Grant in Gunga Din July 27th in Newtown
Cary Grant, in his most dashing and debonair film role, will be visiting Edmond Town Hall in Newtown when “Gunga Din,” is screened Sunday, July 27th. Tickets for all three shows, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm, will be $2.00. Part of the 2014 Sunday Cinema Series, the film is presented by the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. Inspired by the Rudyard Kipling heroic poem, Gunga Din is a humble Indian water bearer who aspires to become a respected soldier in the British Army. The story is set in late 19th century colonial India, where three sergeants of the Royal Engineers (played by Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.) lead their troops to stop a murderous Thuggee cult uprising. This is the lighter side of war movies, filled with love and laughter.
