Newtown Rotary Club Foundation Establishes Sandy Hook School Fund

NEWTOWN, CT December 18, 2012 – Newtown Rotary Club Foundation has established the Sandy Hook School Fund to help the victims of the recent tragedy at the elementary school.

Established in 1939, the Newtown Rotary club has a charitable arm, Newtown Rotary Club Foundation; a 501 c 3 Corporation. Under the Foundation umbrella a "Newtown Rotary - Sandy Hook School Fund" has been established to provide both short and long term needs.

The events on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown have prompted the Newtown Rotary club to seek ways to help the victims of this tragedy, their families and the first responders. Club members are not expert counselors and thus will look to help those in need to find such requirements, in partnership with local agencies such as Social Services and the Newtown Youth and Family Counseling Service. The Newtown Rotary Club is dedicated to helping the community of Newtown as they have done over the years, in particular, through youth leadership programs, literacy projects and sponsorship of Interact Clubs (junior Rotary)

If you are seeking to make a tax deductible contribution you can mail your check to Newtown Rotary Foundation P O Box 263, Newtown CT 06470 payable to the Newtown Rotary - Sandy Hook School Fund. Alternatively, you can visit www.newtownctrotary.org for information relating to credit card payments.

The Newtown Rotary Club is one of the 61 clubs in the twelve areas that make up Rotary District 7980, part of a much larger organization—Rotary International (www.rotary.org). Rotary International is made up of 34,000 clubs in 200 countries and geographical areas with over 1.2 million members.  The Rotary International Foundation invests each year in humanitarian and educational projects throughout the world.
