Waterbury, CT---On Saturday, February 11, Chase Varsity Wrestling finished 7th in overall team standings at the Western New England Independent School Wrestling Tournament, the best finish in Chase history. Newtown resident Joe Praino, a Chase freshman, had a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the consolation semifinals that helped him (132lbs) advance to the next round, where he captured a fourth-place medal. Senior Tom Aviles (145lbs) went 2-2 on the day with two falls, while fellow seniors Nick Arisco (152lbs) and Joe Bosco (138lbs) each added a fall of their own. Gary Lamoureux (106lbs) and Severino Guerriero (170lbs) also earned victories, giving Chase wins in 9 out of 10 weight classes entered.Troy Cote ’13 brought home Chase’s first championship, pinning his way through the tournament in the 113lb weight class. The three pin performance earned Cote the tournament's fastest fall honors. Troy’s fellow juniors, Theron Johnson (120lbs) and Joe Minor (126lbs), also brought home medals, both finishing sixth in their respective classes.
