On Saturday, October 13 the Newtown High School Nighthawks Marching Band and Guard won the class 5 open competition at the Yamaha Cup, held at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, with a score of 84.675, winning Best Music, Best Visual, Best Effect and Best Guard. This annual even, held by the USBands organization, had 59 participating bands this year. Newtown won first place in it's division (class 5 open), and they had the 5th highest score out of all of the bands, including some much larger class 6 bands.
