The Newtown High School Baseball team improved to 7-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference with a 1-0 win over Weston Tuesday afternoon.
The Nighthawks junior pitcher Brandon Marks had an outstanding game, pitching all 8 innings, allowing only 3 Weston hits and striking out 6 Trojan batters. The Newtown offense was led by Mike Allwein, who produced a walk-off, game winning single in the bottom of the 8th to score junior Justin DeVellis, who had 3 hits of his own on Tuesday.
The 8th inning was started by a DeVellis single, followed by a Kyle Wilcox single, and a sacrifice bunt by Chris Tenney. Sophomore Mike Davis was intentionally walked to set the stage for Allwein’s walk-off one hopper off the left field fence. For the Nighthawks, Chris Tenney had a double, while Evan Noonan and Mike Davis added hits in the win.
Newtown will play at Oxford on Wednesday, first pitch: 4:15.
