Area Business Owner Named to Board of Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury

Barbara Branagan-Mitchell, owner and director of Branagan Communications Consultants LLC (BCC) (www.branagancommunications.com) in New Milford, Connecticut, a public relations, publicity placement, marketing communications and writing and editing consulting agency, announced that she has been named to the board of directors for the Audubon Center at Bent of the River at 185 East Flat Hill Road in Southbury's hamlet of South Britain.

The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is a private, not- for-profit organization that protects over 700 acres of numerous natural ecosystems, habitats, un-fragmented forest, grasslands, meadows, swamps and a portion of the Pomperaug River. There are more than 15 miles of hiking trails throughout The Bent on varied and beautiful terrains. More than 170 species of birds have been recorded in the pristine sanctuary. The Bent of the River, and its’ highly diverse eco-systems, have been identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) in Connecticut protecting open land and wildlife over one square mile. The Audubon’s mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats(http://bentoftheriver.audubon.org).

In 2012, Branagan Communications Consultants LLC (BCC)is celebrating 19 years as a sole proprietor. Branagan-Mitchell launched her company in 1993 in Westchester County, New York to provide public relations, publicity placement, marketing communications writing and editing services to small to medium sized businesses. For the past six years, she has provided those services to over 150 companies and organizations throughout the northern Fairfield, southern Litchfield County and northwestern New Haven County region.

Since 2009, Branagan-Mitchell has been an Ambassador with the Waterbury Regional Chamber and was named the 14-town non-profit organization’s highly-prestigious 2010 Volunteer of the Year. In 2009 she graduated as team leader of the Chamber’s Leadership Greater Waterbury program. In addition to her four year membership with the Waterbury Regional Chamber, Branagan-Mitchell is currently a member of the marketing committee of the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra; a member of the Southbury and Woodbury Business Associations, and the Greater Tribury Chamber of Commerce for the past three years.
