Teddys for Newtown

Sending teddys to the town of Newtown!

"After the terrible tragedy that has taken place in Newtown, Connecticut I feel the lord is calling on me to do something. I have decided I want to collect teddy bears for each of the children that attend Sandy Hook Elementary. In such a terrible time like this I want them to be comforted. I know a teddy bear is so small and can no way take all of the pain away that was caused by this day, but I hope a new fuzzy friend to hug will help."

My name is Alysa and I am a twenty year old from a small town in central Illinois.

Above is what I posted on a facebook group I created called "Teddys for Newtown."

I have asked many people to help me collect bears to send your way! Within an hour of creating the page, I had a huge response and so many of my friends and family are excited to help!

My heart aches for the community of Newtown. I happen to be studying elementary education at Illinois State University, so I feel a special connection to the children and teachers at the school. Soon, teddys will be sent your way!

I am in college and many of my friends are members of sororitys and are asking their sisters to help out! My goal is 650 (that seems to be about the number of students that attend Sandy Hook from the research ive done online) bears before Christmas! I am thankfully receiving so much support from the people I know here in Illinois. Cannot wait to start receiving the first bears to then send your way!

What about holding a "Christmas Watch" where people are stationed at or near the school holding a candle for every victim. This would start on December 24th and would continue through midnight on Christmas Day.

I live in Sandy Hook & my children attend that school. They are in college now, but I will help you organize the teddy bears on this end.

I live in New Jersey and am trying to get a collection of teddy bears going here also for the children in Newton, CT. Lois Imbriano Barber would you be able to help me get an address to send them to? As a mother of 4 small children myself I can not even begin to imagine the heartache of the people and little children in your town. A teddy bear can't erase their pain but it can show a child someone is praying for and caring about them. If anyone can help me with an address please contact me. My email is kelekeli@verizon.net and I also created a FB Page for our community to help yours. Great work Alysa White!! God Bless!

A local radio station in Hartford (CT) began a teddy bear drive yesterday. I too had been wanting to give teddy bears to help these poor children who survived that god-awful day. I'd heard about the radio station drive just an hour before it ended. I ran to the closest Walmart and bought $60 worth of stuffed baby animals that were oh so soft (Walmart had no teddy bears). I ran out of the store and the flew the 8 miles to the teddy bear drive...only to find out I had but only one stuffed animal! In my haste to get there, I didn't even realize the cashier handed me only one bag. Thankfully, I called the store, they had my other bags put to the side. I flew (too fast actually) back to the store and then back to the teddy drive and got there just as they were packing up their vans at 4:01pm (it ended at 4:00). That was the longest period of time I had gone through without crying since Friday. As a Connecticut resident, I thank you all and am touched by your heartfelt kindness. Although I know no one from Newtown and live about 45 minutes away, it feels like this happened in my back yard, and I've been rocked to core like never before. Reading how my fellow statesmen, countrymen and the rest of the world are reacting helps more than I can say. Keep the drive going! There are thousands and thousands of elementary school students in our state who are afraid to go to school. It would be nice to ease their pain and fears as well.
Moe December 17, 2012 at 07:34 pm
You are an extremely special person Alysa! And this is just what our state needs right now...Thank you!

My kids were in Head O Meadow Friday in Lockdown, When their friends back home heard they wanted to do something too.
We started a teddy bear drive in Upstate New York's Sourthern tier friday night and have enough bears donated already to hand out to at least 2 of the 4 elementary schools and it keeps growing. We have only been here a little over a month, and the response back home is amazing. I posted a blog about our story earlier today.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.

I'm o n Butterfield. No sightings here. Any specifics as to her location?
Carol Chapman June 19, 2013 at 09:23 am
Norma has been spotted this morning at the intersection of Kenan and Currituck. The red leash isRead More still attached. She was trying to eat a dead squirrel on Currituck. Very skittish, but still in the neighborhood (yay). Please watch for her. My husband and sister-in-law (who first spotted her on Currituck this morning) were unable to get near her. She's in the woods, heading toward Butterfield. Her foster mom is on the scene now. Folks in the neighborhood, please watch for her and call 203-942-4008 if you see her.
Carol Chapman June 19, 2013 at 11:20 am
Carolee Mason (Newtown's Animal Control Officer) is watching her from her car at the moment, armedRead More with catfood to tempt her closer. The foster mom is on her way there again, this time with chicken, and Laura is on her way with hamburger. Problem is, this dog is VERY shy, skittish and quick to run away.
