Today in Newtown: Happy Birthday, Mary Hawley

Here's what you can do in Newtown and nearby today.

Here's a look at what's going on in Newtown and nearby Thursday, August 22:

Mary Hawley Open House: Edmond Town Hall celebrates the birthday of Newtown's beloved benefactress. Come by from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and sign the guestbook.

Dropkick Murphys: Love Boston-based Irish punk rock? If so, you've probably already got tickets to see the legends of the field, playing at Ives Concert Park in Danbury at 7:30 p.m.

Mother Goose: You're never too young to learn music and rhythm. Babies from 24 to 36 months can begin their musical journey with Mother Goose at the Booth Library. Starts at 10:00 a.m.

Monsters University: It's your last chance to catch the Pixar prequel at Edmond Town Hall before it closes. Man of Steel opens Friday. Showtimes are 1:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Go for a Hike: It's going to be a beautiful day (unless we get rain in the late afternoon, but that's looking less likely now), so why not enjoy nature with a walk through Paugussett State Forest and enjoy the gorgeous views of the Housatonic River? Click the link for more trail details.
