Suspected Grenade Draws Police Activity

Police were called after a resident found what appeared to be an old grenade.

A Brookwood Drive homeowner was doing outside yard work when an old grenade was spotted shortly after 1 p.m., Friday, setting off a police response, Newtown police said.

The area was blocked off and state responders were called, police said.

The Connecticut Police Emergency Services unit arrived about two hours later, determined the item was not an active grenade and disposed of the item without incident, police said. The grenade appeared to have been hollowed out, police said.
