Newtown's first annual Restaurant Week kicks off today, providing diners with 13 establishments from which to choose and three different price points to suit different budgets.
The range of restaurants range from casual breakfast and lunch joints to fancier dinner establishments. Some of the participating restaurants offer one or more meal deals at $5, $15 and $25 or a Buy-One-Get-One special.
The lower prices are typically for breakfast fare while the midpoint is generally for lunch and the $25 is reserved for dinner. In the later case, three-course meals are being offered.
For instance, Sal e Pepe is offering three choices each of an appetizer (gorgonzola garlic bread, soup of the day or baby mista salad), entree (chicken, vegetable ravioli or tilapia) and dessert (bread pudding, cherry parfait or creme brulee) combination for $25 each person.
Meanwhile, the Inn at Newtown also is offering a $25 special with a choice of braised lamb shank, ancho chile salmon or grilled hanger steak with a mixed-green salad, bread and choice of sorbet or ice cream for dessert, accompanies by coffee or tea.

I went to Katherine's Kitchen this morning planning to meet friends for breakfast, but they were closed. Later heard they were still trying to restock after Irene. Any word on when they plan to reopen and if any of these other restaurants are also still closed?

Hi Rhonda, sorry for the inconvenience this caused you. Katherine's Kitchen is now OPEN! They lost power during the hurricane, but they are now restocked and ready for Restaurant Week! Every participating restaurant is open for their normal business hours - enjoy!

I hope to enjoy restaurant week however after replacing the contents of my fridge and freezer lost during the power outage, I'm not sure I'll be able to afford it!
