Police Allege Janitor, Teen Had Rendezvous in Camper

Affidavit says James Young bought a "camper-type" van and allegedly used it for sexual rendezvous with teen in Newtown.

James Young and a teenager allegedly had sex inside a camper vehicle that was parked in the lot of Starbucks or at the commuter lot on Wasserman Way, according to a newly released arrest affidavit Newtown police used to charge Young with a third second-degree sexual assault charge.

Young, 39, of Benson Road, Middlebury, had been charged with two counts of sexual assault in April in connection with a sexual relationship he allegedly maintained with a teenager.

The teen was 15-years-old at the time and a student at Newtown High School where Young also worked as a janitor, according to a court affidavit. Middlebury police, who made the arrest, said the two charges were filed in their jurisdiction because the alleged sexual encounters occurred at Young's home.

But then, last week, Young was charged with a third count of sexual asault, but this time from Newtown police, who declined to say why except to say that the alleged offense occurred somewhere in town.

According to an arrest affidavit, which was filed with the state Superior Court in Danbury on Monday, the third charge is in connection with the same relationship except that Newtown police are alleging that Young and the teen met up at Starbucks and a commuter lot near Exit 10 of Interstate 84 to have sex.

Young had apparently bought a "camper type" van that the two put to use, according to the affidavit, which identifies the teenager only as Jane Doe.

"Doe stated they used the van to have sex in while in Newtown and Middlebury and consisted of being parked either at Starbucks on 34 Church Hill Road...or I-84 Exit 10 commuter lots, also in Newtown," according to the affidavit.

The van had a bed, two captain chairs, cabinets and a television, according to the affidavit.

Authorities learned of the three-year relationship after Southbury police in March.

Young is to appear Wednesday June 22 to answer to these latest charges.
