Accused Getaway Driver in 2010 Robberies Charged

The man accused of being the getaway driver in two robberies in 2010 at the Newtown Savings Bank and GameStop store is finally charged.

Nearly a year since former Bethel resident Carl Valluzzo allegedly drove the getaway car in a and later a he is being charged in connection with the crimes.

Valluzzo has been incarcerated since a few hours after Valluzzo, and accused co-conspiractor Shane Parsons, allegedly robbed the Newtown Savings Bank in Newtown. Earlier that day, the pair also had attempted to rob the Webster Bank in Waterbury, police said.

While Valluzzo has pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charges in connection with the Webster Bank heist, burglaries in Middlebury as well as a , he had not been officially charged in the two robberies in Newtown.

That changed on Wednesday when those charges were officially served on Valluzzo in state Superior Court in Danbury. Newtown police charged him with two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny.

Valluzzo remains held on bond that was increased to $40,000 for those additional charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and is to appear again in Superior Court in Danbury on June 1.
