18th Annual Health Fair to be Held This Weekend

The health district will host its annual health fair this weekend, which will feature many freebies and other services.

Police canine demonstrations, fire department extrication exercises, local cow exhibits and Zumba movements are among some of the many activities to be found this weekend at Newtown's 18th annual health fair between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Sat., Sept. 24 at Newtown Middle School.

In addition there will be many free health screenings, give-aways and drawings as part of the annual event to promote health and wellness. There is no admission fee.

FOOD DRIVE for Newtown/Salvation Army Food Pantry.  Many individuals and families are feeling the effects of these difficult economic times, even here in Newtown.  It is more important than ever that we do whatever we can, however large or small our effort to help our neighbors.   

FLU SHOTS:   The Bethel Visiting Nurse Association will be providing Flu Shots at the Health Fair.  Insurances accepted are Aetna, Aetna Medicare, Anthem BC/BS, Connecticare, Connecticare Medicare, HealthNet Medicare, Medicare  Part B, Oxford, and Wellcare Medicare.  Newtown residents without insurance may have their vaccination subsidized by Newtown VNA and Newtown Health District. 

Newtown’s First responders:  Our five Fire Companies: Botsford, Dodgingtown, Hawleyville, Hook and ladder and Sandy Hook, as well as Newtown Police and Newtown Ambulance will all be there.  Stop by, say hello and check out their latest info and equipment.  These are the folks that work to keep us all safe. 

Botsford Fire Department will be doing an extrication demonstration outside in front of the building. 

BARO our canine police officer will be at the Health Fair.  BARO will be demonstrating his skills on the front lawn.   

ZUMBA demonstration:  Tammy Demarche from Z Place for Fitness will be doing Zumba demonstrations.  Newbie, beginner or expert, come have some fun! 

Castle Hill Farm and Paproski’s cows will also be on the front lawn, along with milk, compliments of Marcus Dairy. 

The fair is sponsored with additional funding from Aqua Environmental Lab, Dr. Cayer’s Health and Wellness Center, Families Network of Western Connecticut, and Senior Helpers. 

Other businesses that helped support the fair through donations and other contributions include Big Y, Caraluzzi’s, Stop & Shop, Carminuccio’s Pizza, Franco’s Pizza & Pasta, My Place Restaurant, Papa Al’s, Pizza Palace, Villa Restaurant and the Newtown Bee.
