Although several Newtown businesses closed shop this year, the town did experience an influx of many new businesses, including a brand new shopping mall on South Main. Here are 10 notable ones this year:
SANDY HOOK
1. Fun Kids, Church Hill Road: This offshoot of the popular children's hair salon, Fun Kuts, carries consignment items for infants to size 14, as well as good condition toys and furnishings. Whoops!! My last comment stated that it was 18 "new" businesses. Early on a Sunday morning makes me a little off the track and totally unable to count or read correctly. It should have said 13 new businesses that opened in Newtown.

Sabrina Style, seriously? They had been operating out of their home for quite a while before opening their Sandy Hook storefront in May 2008. How does that come anywhere near qualifying as opening within the past year?

Moshpit, thanks for bringing that to my attention. Sabrina Style was opened prior to this year and as a result doesn't belong on this list. We have since swapped it out for Papa Al's in Hawleyville. Dolores, there are a few other businesses that started this year but we wanted to stick to a list of 10 for this article. Thanks for all of your help in this.

Didn't Great Finds and Designs open in 2010? That's a great little consignment store next to Ricci's/Hero Barbering school.
